Good year ago I started my apprenticeship as an office management assistant at JTL and today I often wonder where the time has gone.
My first day here – I remember it only too well – was exciting and I didn’t know what to expect. I was accompanied by many fears and worries that arise when a new phase of life begins. But as it soon turned out, all my fears were unfounded. I received a very warm welcome from my colleagues, which made it easy for me to settle in quickly at JTL in Hückelhoven.
JTL-Software has been a recognized training company since 2014 and has taken on two trainees in the last year, including me.
Learning independence and gaining confidence
Together with my trainer, I work in the accounting department and carry out organizational and commercial/administrative tasks. In addition to order processing, I check incoming and outgoing payments, handle internal and external correspondence and customer phone calls and also look after personnel matters.
In detail, this means that I deliver licenses to our customers and enter sales orders for our services, e.g. installations, data transfers or domain changes. I also regularly work with the dunning process and get to know many areas of proper accounting at JTL-Software.
While many of my activities were still accompanied and supervised at the beginning of my training, I now carry out many of my daily tasks independently. It’s nice to experience how my confidence in my work grows from week to week and how I am carefully introduced to other areas of responsibility.
I have vocational school twice a week, where I learn all the theoretical background to my areas of responsibility, which I can put into practice and deepen here. That works quite well.
Learning from mistakes ...
And when I look back now, I realize how much I have learned in such a short time. Back then, I often asked myself: “When will you finally understand?” And today, I take this work for granted. The important thing for me was that I could ask any question, no matter how “stupid”, and always receive a helpful answer without being treated dismissively.
My trainer often told me that it wasn’t a bad thing to make mistakes. After all, I was here to learn. I still make mistakes today, but knowing that I don’t have to be afraid of them makes my day-to-day work a lot easier. “The biggest mistake you can make in life is to always be afraid of making a mistake”. How right she is.
I am glad that I started my apprenticeship at JTL Software, because even apprentices are considered a full member of the company here. An experience that not every trainee gets to have, as I can see from my friends and classmates.
I really appreciate the friendly and informal atmosphere at JTL-Software. Even if the fact that we are all on first-name terms here was very difficult and unfamiliar for me at the beginning. In the meantime, however, I really appreciate this and simply feel comfortable in my team. It’s really remarkable that so much emphasis is generally placed on the well-being of all employees.
I am excited to see what else awaits me here and look forward to the next year of training. I know that many wonderful experiences await me at JTL and I am sure that I will successfully complete my training here.
