Switching to JTL does not have to be time-consuming and expensive – with the targeted use of tools and the support of the right service partner, the project can be completed quickly and smoothly. Here is a guide including frequently asked questions(FAQ) from merchants who have already made the switch to JTL.
Your switch to JTL
You can switch from almost any system to JTL – regardless of whether you are coming from another store system, use a different ERP system or have previously sold products without software support. There are a few basic steps that you can always follow to ensure that your switch to JTL is a complete success.
How to switch from PlentyONE to JTL
We often receive inquiries from customers who previously used PlentyONE solutions. Below we outline five steps on how to make the switch to JTL a smooth one. But don’t worry: you don’t have to follow every step. These are more tips on how experience has shown that the switch works best.
Step 1
Find out more and get to know JTL
With JTL, you are switching to a completely new system. You should therefore start by familiarizing yourself with our product portfolio. At the center of all solutions is the ERP JTL-Wawi, which is included in all JTL editions. Our interface for the integration of various marketplaces is directly on board. You can create an online shop with JTL-Shop and manage your warehouse with JTL-WMS. Please note the exact range of functions of our editions on our Prices & Editions page.
JTL-Connector: Yes or no?
First check whether you can use a JTL-Connector or not: With our connectors, you can integrate external store systems into the JTL-Wawi ERP system – Shopware 6, Shopify, WooCommerce or PrestaShop. You can use some of these interfaces free of charge, others are billed on a transaction basis via our order packages(more information). As not all functions of the shop systems are always supported, we generally recommend switching to JTL-Shop. You can also use the connectors for data migration from your old system.

Differences to PlentyONE
JTL can map most of the functions of PlentyONE. However, before you decide to switch to JTL, you should first carefully check all the functions that are particularly important to you.
Good idea is to make a list that you can go through bit by bit using our help pages and videos. Make a note of all open points so that you can clarify them later with our sales department or one of our service partners.

We recommend anyone who wants to switch to JTL to contact our sales department. Why? Our sales staff have many years of experience in migrating customers. They know exactly when it makes sense to involve a service partner and which tasks you can do yourself. Advice is free and non-binding.
Do I have to do everything on my own?
Do you want to carry out the migration yourself or have a certified JTL service partner help you? The decision depends on two factors: the expertise in your company and the system you want to migrate from. For systems such as PlentyONE and Afterbuy, JTL and its partners have greatly optimized the migration process. In this case, you will hardly be any cheaper if you do it yourself. For other systems, we sometimes have quite good migration documentation that you can use to make the switch yourself.
Let JTL advise you before you make the switch. The best way to do this is to fill out our contact form to arrange a meeting with our sales team. JTL has the ability to efficiently migrate your data from PlentyONE to JTL-Wawi ERP.
Based on your project requirements, we will also decide whether your migration will be managed by JTL or a service partner. You will then receive an individual listing from us.
Can't I do that on my own ?
Of course, you can also implement JTL in your company without external support. In the JTL-Guide you will find detailed instructions for all important installation and setup processes. However, we recommend that you take advantage of our free consultation.
In a personal consultation, we will show you exactly which steps you can take yourself and where it makes sense to get help from JTL or one of our service partners. You will see that some services are so inexpensive that it is not worth shouldering them yourself.

Preparations and Setup
Once you have decided which products or which editions of JTL you would like to use, you can set up a test system. To do this, contact our sales team , who will activate the corresponding accesses for you. Then check all workflows in JTL-Wawi, JTL-Shop and JTL-WMS. If you are satisfied with everything, you can move on to the next step. Your JTL service partner will also be happy to help you set up your test system.
Which hardware do I need?
The hardware requirements of our solutions depend on various factors: How many clients should access a database? How many items need to be maintained? How many orders per day need to be processed? We have created a list of the technical limits of JTL-Wawi. Check the system requirements precisely in this context.
If you have decided to switch to JTL, the next step is to make all the necessary preparations: Is your hardware up to date? Which editions and user licenses do you need to purchase? Do you need your own server or will you have your databases hosted externally? Our service partners will also be happy to help you with these questions.
Which solutions do I need?
Many people who switch to JTL explore in advance which JTL products they need for their business. Advice from our sales team or a JTL service partner is usually sufficient to decide which software is right for you. By arrangement, you also almost always have the opportunity to test our solutions extensively and without restrictions. During the test phase, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about functions and setup.

Data transfer
Now it’s time to get serious: export all relevant data from your old system and import it into JTL-Wawi or JTL-Shop. If you can use a JTL-Connector, the transfer will happen automatically. Otherwise, the data migration to JTL-Wawi is carried out using the import and export tool JTL-DataTransfer.
How do I migrate my data?
Most solutions offer the option of exporting data – e.g. sales orders, items or customers – in batches. The best format for a migration to JTL is the CSV format. You can easily transfer files in CSV format to the JTL-Wawi database using the JTL-DataTransfer import tool. Our service partners will be happy to help you with more complicated migrations.
This step is the easiest – you can simply let others do the work for you! Normally, a test is carried out first during the migration. If all data is transferred correctly, JTL or your service partner can carry out the complete data transfer. Depending on the type of transfer and the size of the database, the automatic transfer takes between four hours and one working week.

Check all imported data. If there are any errors, you can import a backup of the JTL-Wawi database and perform the import again. If everything is Good, you can prepare to go live. It is best to switch over all systems at a specific time. If necessary, manually update any last changes – for example, newly added sales orders or customers.

Go-live and reworking
Once the move has been completed and the software and hardware have been set up, nothing stands in the way of the go-live. Choose a day when you have enough time and plan time for adjustments on the following day. Let’s go – from today you’ll be working productively with JTL software.

You can integrate Amazon, eBay, OTTO, Kaufland, MediaMarktSaturn and voelkner directly from JTL-Wawi via the integrated marketplace interfaces. Numerous other marketplaces are quickly ready for use thanks to ready-made partner solutions. Billing is transaction-based according to the order package you have selected. Yes, our ERP system JTL-Wawi is a desktop application with an associated database. You have the following options for operation:
- Install JTL-Wawi and database locally in your own network.
- JTL-Wawi and database on a server in the cloud.
JTL offers you a high-performance cloud solution for operating your JTL environment. With this service, your JTL applications and database are hosted on high-performance cloud servers from our hosting partner ecomDATA. It doesn’t matter where your workstations are located – thanks to JTL-Wawi Cloud, you can work with JTL from any location, with any device and any operating system. The only requirement is Internet access.
As a rule, there is no obligation to update JTL software. This means that you decide for yourself if and when you want to switch to a new version. For security reasons, however, we recommend that our customers always keep the software up to date; our technical support only supports the last two stable (major) versions of JTL-Wawi.
