JTL-Shop gets a new look with version 5. We are therefore currently developing the NOVA template and some portlets for the OnPageComposer. The administration area of the store is also being partially restructured and simplified. Today we would like to introduce you to the new design of these modules and ask for your opinion. The survey is aimed at both store operators and store agencies. If you are short of time, you can also give feedback on just one of the topics – every vote counts.
Introduction to templates
Our in-house shop system is especially made for professional web agencies, because a JTL-Shop is customizable on many levels – even where other online shops set design limits. Thanks to the open source code, the Smarty template engine and, in future, the OnPage Composer(what is that?), every JTL-Shop can be highly customized to meet the needs of a customer.
For online merchants who do not require an individual template, JTL partner agencies offer high-quality templates for purchase(to the JTL Extension Store). In addition, a basic template is delivered with every JTL-Shop. This is currently the EVO generation. However, intensive work is being done on a successor called NOVA.
David, our Product Owner for JTL-Shop, has already presented the NOVA template to some experts and gathered initial feedback. Now we are asking you – the retailers and everyday users of the store system – for your opinion on the new design.
We present five screenshots, each of which you can rate and comment on with a small survey. All responses will be carefully evaluated by JTL. We will then present a summary of all the results in the JTL forum(to the JTL forum).
We look forward to every participation.
Let’s go!
The product detail page in the NOVA template
On the detail page, you present your product to the customer in full detail. The product description, variants, special prices, legal provisions and much more must be taken into account. Take a close look at the design and then answer the questions below.

The category view in the NOVA template
In the category view, visitors to an online store will find numerous filters to define their search and further refine existing results. Customers want to be able to compare products directly in the category view, remember items, recommend them or add them to their shopping cart.
If a customer selects multiple filters in the category view, JTL-Shop 5 can further restrict the search result (AND link) or expand it to include the results of the second filter (OR link). With the new store version, you can define the link type (AND/OR) separately for each characteristic (color, size, etc.) in JTL-Wawi.

The usability of the OnPage Composer
The OnPage Composer (OPC for short) enables retailers and marketing experts to add individual content to every page in the online store – in the form of small portlets. Typical portlets for online stores are, for example
- Customer journey: subheadings, galleries, atmospheric images, videos
- Product recommendations: Most wanted, Fits to, Other customers also bought
- Special product features: Energy efficiency classes, stock information, delivery conditions
- Social media: Blog posts, comment function, customer reviews, reviews, trust seal
- Increase in sales: promotions, countdowns, bonus points, discount codes, live chats
To make adjustments, the retailer switches to the edit mode of a page. A menu for defining the portlets is displayed on the left-hand side. These elements can be dragged & dropped onto the store page and further defined.

Part 4: The back end of the JTL-Shop
The administration area of an online store is usually only visible to selected employees of your company. Good orientation is important when setting up a store, however – also to get the most out of the store system and to be able to quickly find the cause of any problems with the store.
For greater clarity, we have opted for sidebar navigation. The menu items have also been regrouped and given more comprehensible names. We also plan to improve the usability of some pages, such as the shipping method setup.

Thank you for your participation in this store survey. In a few weeks you will find a summary of the survey results here in the JTL forum.
Best regards,
Your team from JTL
