There are eCommerce solutions that you can smoke in a pipe. But with JTL software, Moze’s shisha trade became an impressive success story.
Every Good start-up story begins in a garage. Ours starts in a garage in Meppen, near the Dutch border. As an ardent hookah fan, I’m tinkering with an idea from the shisha community on social media: reusable hygienic mouthpieces. Until now, there have only been disposable hygienic mouthpieces for shishas, which have to be disposed of after use. Mouthpieces for repeated use would not only be more sustainable, but could also be customized for their owners.
In 2018, I turned my hobby into a business. To realize my vision of unique mouthpiece designs, I use epoxy resin as a material and wooden elements from my uncle’s woodturning workshop. The handmade unique pieces become the blueprint for today’s well-known “Moze Tips”, which we now sell with our own hookah models and accessories in the “Moze” online store based on Shopware 5.
The sales order volume is growing rapidly, boosted by the onset of the online boom during the coronavirus pandemic, but also by the rapid brand awareness that we owe to the “Shisha Start-up of the Year” award at the ShishaMesse Frankfurt 2019. Rapid business growth – both nationally and internationally – quickly pushes the store system to its limits as a stand-alone solution. As the number of orders increases, there are more and more errors at the outgoing goods department, where picking and packing is still completely manual. We urgently need a viable warehouse and shipping management system.
Heads are spinning in the hookah camp: which WMS is right for us?
Following recommendations from our network, we decide on JTL. With the help of JTL support, we migrate our product data from the Shopware shop to the JTL-Wawi ERP system. The JTL service partner “go eCommerce” assists us with the implementation of special requirements. Good is working with us to create a print template for customs invoices with a TARIC code, which significantly shortens the duration of customs checks and offers our customers abroad a better service.
Now the problems in the shisha warehouse are also disappearing into thin air – initially through the use of JTL-Packing Bench+. Automated printing processes and picking with bar codes not only reduce our errors, but also enable us to deliver sales orders much faster. This means that there are no longer any software limits to our further growth. In 2023, we will move into a new location and manage the warehouse with JTL-WMS and the associated mobile app, which will further increase throughput per employee and reduce the error rate from 5% to less than 0.5%.
New chapters in the success story: multichannel and internationalization
With the resilient ERP and warehouse solutions from JTL, we have created the conditions for opening up new markets and target groups. We now serve customers in Europe, the USA, Japan and China via our bilingual store. We also operate another Shopware shop specifically for B2B customers via the Multishop module in JTL-Wawi, as well as a Shopify shop for dog supplies to diversify with a second brand and various products. We also sell our range on Amazon via the JTL-eazyAuction marketplace interface. Thanks to the centralized and automated processes in JTL-Wawi, more sales channels and orders do not mean more effort. On the contrary: the software frees us up to continue growing. The joint success story of Moze and JTL is far from over.
