ListView extensions in JTL-Wawi – How to use individual list views

With JTL-Wawi 1.5.6, the so-called ListView extensions have found their way into our ERP. These are individual list views that allow you to customize JTL-Wawi to your needs. In today’s blog post, I’ll explain exactly how this works and the many possibilities it offers.

ListView extensions in JTL-Wawi - what are they?

As mentioned at the beginning, the ListView extensions in JTL-Wawi are nothing more than a feature for designing individual list views. It enables you to make adjustments to your view at pretty much any point in the ERP and to display information that JTL-Wawi does not provide by default. In short: With the ListView extensions from version 1.5.6 of our ERP, you decide for yourself what information you want to see – and, above all, where.

Would you like to display the development of purchase prices in your article overview, for example? Or would you like to keep an eye on the stock levels of all your suppliers at this point? Our new feature makes all this possible.

Advantages of the individual list views

The list views make JTL-Wawi highly customizable, which should play into your hands in your everyday retail business and offer numerous advantages.

The best way to document this is perhaps to use a concrete example: You can use the list views to display your customers’ order history in your order overview. This additional information can help you to make quicker decisions, for example when negotiating a discount. Thanks to the ListView extensions, you no longer have to click around in other areas of JTL-Wawi, but can display exactly the information that best supports you in your daily work processes.

The technical background

You add the ListView extensions in JTL-Wawi via SQL. SQL – the Structured Query Language – is the language you use to communicate with our ERP. With its help, data can be easily inserted, changed or deleted in a relational database, which JTL-Wawi also uses extensively. There are therefore a few things to bear in mind when using SQL:

  • If you make changes to the list views, these are saved directly for all JTL-Wawi users.
  • Changing the ListView extensions only works if you have the authorization “Extend lists with dynamic SQLs”, which you can view in the rights management.
  • Depending on their scope, SQLs can cause a heavy load on the database and thus performance problems. You should therefore check whether JTL-Wawi is still running smoothly after every change.
  • SQLs can change due to updates. If you encounter any problems, please post in the corresponding thread in the JTL forum so that we can help you as quickly as possible.

How to add individual list views

You can add ListView extensions almost anywhere in JTL-Wawi. To do this, click on the “Own overviews” tab at the bottom right of your item overview, for example, and then on the “Plus” button on the left below it. A field will open in which you can now add the SQL.

By clicking on “Save”, you confirm the changes so that the new information is always displayed when you select the corresponding element in your ERP.

I have also explained the whole thing in detail in a second video on the individual list views:

No SQL master? No problem!

When I introduced the individual list views in JTL-Wawi, there were some worried reactions from our community about the use of SQL. But we would like to allay your fears: We know that not all of you have in-depth knowledge of SQL. But that shouldn’t and doesn’t have to stop you from customizing JTL-Wawi with the ListView extensions.

For this purpose, we have opened a separate thread in our JTL forum. This serves as a central point of contact for you to get quick and uncomplicated help with the use of SQL.
Simply write there where in JTL-Wawi you would like to have which information displayed. Other users as well as our service partners – and last but not least myself – will then be able to provide you with the relevant SQL. All you have to do is add it in the appropriate place as described above.

With this campaign, we are once again pursuing the approach of not developing JTL products “in a quiet chamber”, but as close as possible to you and your wishes. The support from our community should also help to take away your fear of SQL.

The many requests that we have already been able to process and implement in JTL-Wawi show how Good the support for the ListView extensions in JTL-Wawi has worked so far. I have also summarized some of the solutions for you in a separate video:
