The idea for the online store was born on Helgoland in May 2009 – over a bottle of Zacapa 23. Over 250,000 customers now appreciate our selected spirits.

After an intensive development phase, we went online in November 2009. xtCommerce and JTL-Wawi have been with us for a good three years now. In December 2010, we reach 1,000 orders per month for the first time – another year later, we already have over 10,000 customers, seven employees and a good 450 m² of storage space in several garages in our neighborhood. A great story that we never expected.

More powerful software, a fresh face and much more space ...

Our shipping volume continues to increase and we are increasingly reaching the limits set by xtCommerce. In February 2013, we switch to JTL-Shop. Rum & Co is given a more attractive look and five months later we move into new office and warehouse space, now covering 1,800 m². Many things now run more smoothly, processes become clearer and can be automated. Thanks to the expansion, we quickly became the largest online rum retailer in Europe with over 1,000 types of rum.

Achieving high customer loyalty with added value

It became clear early on that we would only be able to retain our rapidly growing customer base through exclusive services and an individual approach. At the end of 2013, we published our first self-authored “rum book”, opened our showroom with warehouse sales at the beginning of 2014 and started producing our first own rum, which would later become an entire series. Many other projects and events have been added to date. Just recently, in September 2019, the 14th edition of “Schnappsblatt” was published, our popular spirits journal for customers and friends of rum & co.

Make the store visit tangible and emotional

We are also making our website more tangible for our customers. To this end, we are working with kreativkarussell, an experienced team of JTL service partners. One of our main tasks is to expand the JTL Shop rating system. Customers should benefit more from the know-how of our spirits experts – but at the same time they should also be able to store their own taste profiles, which then appear graphically appealing on the article pages (see screenshot). The integration into the JTL store is impressively successful: thousands of product and taste ratings by our customers are proof of this.

We are highly satisfied with our path and the possibilities that JTL’s software offers us. We are convinced that JTL will enable us to implement many of the things that we will come up with in the future and tackle together with kreativkarussell. Our 10th anniversary is just around the corner: we are looking forward to the next ten exciting and successful years with Rum & Co!
