Genuss Berlin stands for special taste experiences – with a range that specializes in the great love of liquorice. From sweet to salty, from classic to extraordinary, at Genuss Berlin you will find everything your licorice heart desires – and much more. Managing directors Darius Okra and Baha Iscan take us behind the scenes of the Berlin food start-up and tell us how JTL software helped pave the way for their growth.
The first steps towards online success
It all began modestly with a single type of licorice – the well-known licorice snails. Initially only sold locally, demand grew quickly and the range was expanded. At some point, it became clear that in order to scale up, sales would have to be transferred to an online store. Today, the team packs over 1,000 bags per week, with up to 150 different types of licorice per mix! If you’re not a licorice fan, you can also find chocolate, nougat, nuts, dried fruit and sugar-free sweets at Genuss Berlin.
The breakthrough with JTL
With the decision to focus on e-commerce, the founders faced numerous challenges – from process optimization to error reduction. Before working with JTL, the team worked with handwritten delivery bills and could not even send 500 parcels a day. The error rate was a painful 4 percent, and the manual effort was enormous.
A lot has changed since the implementation of JTL-Wawi merchandise management and JTL-WMS warehouse management. The error rate has fallen to almost 0 percent and the team has been able to drastically increase efficiency. Today, they pack twice as many orders with half the staff – between 700 and 900 parcels a day! And when a new employee helps out, he or she is trained within thirty minutes thanks to the intuitive handling of the software and can start picking immediately. Thanks to the central control of all processes with JTL-Wawi, Genuss Berlin can efficiently manage orders, stock levels and customer data in one system and maintain an overview at all times.
Efficient processes and happy customers
The team now uses mobile scanners and customized picking trolleys to efficiently organize all processes. JTL WMS provides optimal support for warehouse logistics by showing exactly which items need to be picked and where they need to be packed, ensuring fast and error-free processing. Thanks to process automation with JTL, no one has to create delivery bills by hand or worry about errors in the order.
A particular highlight this year was the dispatch of the Advent calendars. Whereas the team processed 1,500 calendars in the previous year and had to cancel 300 orders, this year over 5,000 Advent calendars were delivered to customers on time and without errors.

In addition to the merchandise management and warehouse solution from JTL, Genuss Berlin also uses the JTL Connector, which connects the company’s online store directly to JTL Wawi. This keeps items, stocks and orders in sync at all times. JTL Packing Table+ also optimizes the shipping process in the food start-up’s warehouse by facilitating picking and packing. This is particularly helpful, as large quantities of licorice bags are shipped every day and errors in the ordering process can be avoided. Now that sales via Amazon are also to be boosted in order to reach even more customers, the JTL-eazyAuction marketplace interface is also being used. This ensures a seamless connection to the marketplace so that items and orders can be integrated directly into JTL-Wawi and the entire sales process can be managed centrally.
A look into the future
Genuss Berlin is currently focusing on the German market, but is also planning to expand into the entire DACH region and beyond. This is where the VAT solution from countX becomes interesting, as it gives them tax protection throughout Europe.
The food start-up’s accounting is also in need of optimization. With the FIBU interface from JERA, the new subsidiary of JTL, this pain point will soon be history.
By working with JTL, Genuss Berlin has achieved a significant increase in efficiency and sustainably optimized processes. The result? A happy team, satisfied customers and a rosy future for the up-and-coming Berlin company.
