Kaufland recently opened the online marketplace Kaufland.sk in Slovakia, Kaufland.cz in the Czech Republic will follow shortly. For you as an online retailer, this will enable you to expand your business internationally without any major additional effort. This new sales channel also offers potential for more sales, which you should not miss out on.
The origin: Kaufland.de as a successful German eCommerce concept
Kaufland.de is one of the fastest growing online marketplaces in Germany and offers 45 million items from over 5,000 product categories. Over 9,000 national and international retailers already sell on Kaufland.de, ensuring a wide variety of products.
The successful German eCommerce concept is now being internationalized: Retailers selling on the new marketplaces Kaufland.sk in Slovakia and soon on Kaufland.cz in the Czech Republic from 2023 will use Kaufland’s high brand awareness to appeal to new target groups and gain access to millions of potential customers. Kaufland is already one of the most popular brick-and-mortar retailers in these countries. With Kaufland Global Marketplace, you have been able to sell on three Kaufland marketplaces simultaneously since 2023, allowing you to tap into the huge potential for greater reach and increasing sales.
Online marketplaces as big players in online business
Online marketplaces have become an integral part of eCommerce and are playing an increasingly dominant role. Their advantage: simple processes, both for buying and selling, as documented by relevant statistics. Around 72%1 of online shoppers state that they shop on marketplaces primarily for convenience. In 2020, total sales in European cross-border online business amounted to around 200 billion euros. Of this, 115 billion was generated on online marketplaces2. There is no end in sight to this trend: by 2024, as much as 40 percent of global eCommerce sales are expected to be generated on online marketplaces3.

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, you can expect a comparatively small market that is still not very fragmented – even though 90 percent of the population in these countries already use the internet4. Annual sales growth rates of around nine percent in eCommerce are forecast for the Czech Republic and ten percent for Slovakia by 20275. In Germany, more than 50 percent of all online stores are already represented on marketplaces6. A strong trend towards multichannel retail can also be observed in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.7 This is particularly important in view of economic fluctuations. For example, if you have only been selling via your online store up to now, you should open up additional sales channels with online marketplaces in order to exploit additional sales potential and be more broadly positioned and resilient in times of fluctuating markets.

If you are already selling on Kaufland.de, only a few settings are necessary to add Kaufland.sk and Kaufland.cz as sales channels:
- Create shipping settings
The shipping group must contain the country Czech Republic or Slovakia – otherwise saving is not possible. The shipping costs must be transmitted in the local currency of the respective marketplace. Shipping groups and listings are linked during onboarding. Listings can only be created after at least one shipping group has been added. - Create listings
You can already list product data (in the local language) and listing data (in the local currency) for the new sales channels. - Add tax information
As an EU retailer, you only need to add your OSS number here if you have not yet entered it in the registration. A country-specific tax registration is not necessary. - Manage legal texts
The legal texts must be entered in the language of the respective sales channel and must comply with local legislation. If you need support with this, you can find some listings here. - Enter return addresses
You can use your Kaufland.de address as a return address or add a new one for additional sales channels. - Check warehouse
Optionally, you can add further warehouses for the new sales channels.
Kaufland Global Marketplace offers access to many marketplaces with only one registration and only one basic fee, regardless of the number of marketplaces you ultimately want to sell on. If you register for Kaufland.sk and Kaufland.cz, you will sell on the marketplaces free of charge for the first six months, without commission or basic fee, and receive a discount of 1,200 euros for Sponsored Product Ads for each of the new marketplaces.
