Borderless eCommerce – international shipping is that easy

If you want to expand nationally and internationally, you need reliable worldwide shipping and customer-friendly returns solutions in the destination countries. With an international delivery network and practical shipping processing, borderless growth is easy.

It is in the nature of things that online business knows no borders. The increasing standardization of regulations affecting trade in Europe is making it ever easier to expand business into other European countries. However, the foreign sales market is also being used more and more beyond Europe’s borders. According to a study by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), two thirds of the retailers surveyed sell to end customers abroad. The B2B sector now accounts for an almost equal share, with 60 percent of sales abroad.1

Those who are still hesitant to expand beyond national borders often fear problems with shipping and returns processing. One in eight respondents cited complicated shipping processes as one of the five most important reasons that prevent them from actively selling abroad. 36 percent cite complicated customs processing as an obstacle, while 21 percent fear problematic returns processing.² However, internationally well-positioned logistics providers such as DHL have long since responded to these requirements and also offer fast and reliable international delivery, a wide range of shipping services and simple processing via the Business Customer Portal.

Increasing growth through international trade and shipping

According to the DIHK study, sales can be increased by 15 percent through cross-border trade. If you want to benefit from this growth, you should know that shipping, customs clearance and returns solutions are also uncomplicated and reliable for international trade. With its Parcel International and Europaket services, DHL offers flexible solutions for the special requirements that online business places on international shipping. These include high expectations in terms of customer friendliness and simple, centralized control of the entire shipping process.

Europe-wide shipping with the Europaket

A comprehensive partner network guarantees fast and reliable transit times for shipments to 32 European countries, including out-of-area destinations. As with national shipping, business customers can control everything from the business customer portal, such as shipping preparation including EDI data generation, collection and shipment tracking or ordering packaging material. Europaket also offers the usual services from national shipping, such as round-the-clock shipment tracking, several free delivery attempts, GoGreen or liability against loss or damage at no surcharge up to 500 euros. Anyone selling high-priced goods can take out additional transport insurance to send goods up to a value of 25,000 euros safely.

Worldwide shipping with Parcel International

With Parcel International, online stores can reach their customers in 220 countries and territories beyond Europe. The postal branch network of the destination countries is used, for example, to make it very easy to collect the shipment after customer notification or to hand in returns. The flexibly selectable services, such as a choice of billing options, bulky goods or delivery only after payment of the cash on delivery amount, have now been expanded even further. In selected destination countries, there is now also the option of using Post Delivered Duty Paid for customer-friendly customs clearance or guaranteeing delivery on the first attempt with Closest Droppoint.

The Post Delivered Duty Paid service ensures a high level of customer satisfaction in countries subject to customs duties. It guarantees shoppers maximum price transparency, as they do not have to pay any customs duties. The service can be booked individually for a standard price of four euros and DHL takes care of settling the customs duties with the retailer. The service applies to the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) and is also planned for Norway, Iceland and Switzerland.

Online retailers also score points in international eCommerce with the Closest Droppoint service. This gives customers the option of having their purchase delivered directly to the nearest parcel store. This means no extra work for the sender, as the recipient’s address is sufficient here too. This guarantees delivery on the first attempt and is also cheaper. This is because the shipping costs are generally lower than for doorstep delivery. The service is currently available in Denmark, Austria, Belgium, Finland and Sweden.

Individual options with Returns International

An uncomplicated and inexpensive returns option is often decisive for the purchase decision. There are also various simple options internationally. DHL offers flexible solutions for the most important countries in Europe with Returns International, which are tailored to the respective store. What all variants have in common is that they are easy for online retailers to invoice thanks to the standard price.

Cross-border eCommerce offers great potential for growth. If you want to grow with your own international store or via platforms, you can rely on fast, reliable and customer-oriented international shipping.
