The new JTL-Wawi hosting offers use independent of operating system and location

JTL-Wawi hosting has been available since last week – we announced it at JTL-Connect 2018 and in last week’s blog post. But what’s behind it? And what does the new hosting solution do?

SQL vs. RDP hosting

Many customers know that hosting at JTL is not a completely new topic. Until now, customers have been able to take advantage of our listings for SQL hosting. As the name suggests, this variant covered the database of our ERP – so no separate server was required. However, customers had to run the ERP itself on their own system.

However, in recent years we have received more and more requests from customers for RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) hosting. We are talking about a hosting solution that includes not only the database but also the ERP system itself. The latter would then also be located on our servers, while users would access it via an online connection. After we had examined our options, a number of advantages for JTL customers quickly emerged. So we set about implementing it.

The advantages

As mentioned above, RDP hosting can be used via an Internet connection, as the software does not run on your own computer. To put it as simply as possible: Netflix for software – the solutions are streamed. One of the biggest advantages here is that the software can be used independently of the operating system used. For us, this offered a practical way to let MacOs and Linux users also use JTL-Wawi. All users have to do is start the RDP tool of the respective operating system and a hosted Windows interface including JTL-Wawi appears.

Another massive advantage, regardless of the operating system, is the ability to work from any location. If you run JTL-Wawi as a hosting solution, you can also access the ERP from the airport, a trade fair or at a business meeting. Even better: if you opt for digital nomadism, you can do business from any city, café or even the beach. The only requirement is that you use a device with a suitable internet connection.
