JTL-Shop 5 takes our shop system to a completely new level! Years of development work are now paying off: Never before have we worked so intensively on a store version as we have on this one – and never before has our online store been as stylish, high-performance and user-friendly as it is now.
When improving JTL-Shop, our focus was on a lean shop system with powerful basic functions. We concentrated on what is important for a modern online store: an attractive template, clear navigation, a stable checkout process, good expandability and coverage of all legal requirements.
We have worked hard on both the back end and the front end to optimize usability for retailers and customers. The result: less work for store operators, a better shopping experience for store visitors.
Pre-certification of JTL-Shop 5

NOVA template
Looks aren’t everything, but one thing is certain: JTL-Shop 5 is a sight to behold! This is thanks to the new “NOVA” base template, which replaces our old EVO template. Whether on the desktop, tablet or smartphone – JTL-Shop 5 looks slimmer and fresher than its predecessors and meets all of today’s expectations of a modern front end.
With the clear presentation of your product range, the NOVA template ensures an even more positive shopping experience. With more white space and less information density, the category views are much tidier and guide customers more specifically to the product detail pages. We have removed the sidebar on these pages to put the product front and center.

OnPage Composer
OnPage Composer: Build pages quickly & easily
A real highlight of JTL-Shop 5 is the OnPage Composer – an editor that allows you to master the design of your shop even without programming knowledge. It is seamlessly coordinated with the NOVA template and allows you to insert or move layout and content elements, so-called “portlets”, directly in the front end of your store. Use it like a construction kit and simply drag and drop sliders, images, videos, buttons and much more to the desired location. Portlets that are not included in the standard scope can be easily retrofitted via the JTL Extension Store.
Save pages as templates or drafts
Once you have designed a page with the OnPage Composer, you can save the view as a template and transfer it to other pages in your store with just a few clicks. If you don’t want to build your store using the portlets, you can of course also use ready-made templates. One feature should particularly please retailers with seasonal business: you can also save a finished store page as an unpublished draft and play it out later on a time-controlled basis (for example, at the start of the Christmas season).

JTL Extension Store
The JTL-Extension Store provides you with a central platform for purchasing all your extensions for JTL-Shop 5! Choose from a variety of plugins, templates or portlets for the OnPage Composer to optimally equip your store for your individual requirements.
The JTL-Extension Store is deeply integrated into JTL-Shop 5. Your extensions purchased there appear immediately in the back end of your store after checkout and can be installed with just a few clicks. This saves you the detour via external partner sites or manual data upload via FTP. With the “My purchases” overview page in the store back end, you retain full control over your booked extensions: See immediately when you can download a new version or when a subscription expires.
With the release of JTL-Shop 5, the new JTL-Extension Store will replace the existing JTL-Store marketplace. In future, you will also be able to purchase extensions for other JTL products there.
Back end
Back end: New menu structure and responsive view
The technical administration of JTL-Shop is now even easier. We have renewed the menu structure so that you can find your way around your store back end in the best possible way: the top navigation has been replaced by a clear sidebar that always shows you which store page you are currently on. If you don’t want to navigate through the menu, our intelligent quick search will help you get directly to the page you want.
Another milestone: The back end of JTL-Shop 5 is fully mobile-compatible! This means you can change settings on the go or check your statistics in the evening on the sofa.

Usability
Short loading times thanks to image compression
Images have a significant impact on the loading time of websites and slow loading store pages are a common reason for premature purchase abandonment. This is why we have specifically optimized the loading speed of image content in JTL-Shop 5. A central innovation: images that you upload to JTL-Wawi as usual as JPG or PNG files are automatically displayed by the store system in WebP format, whose higher compression significantly accelerates data retrieval.
Lazy Loading & Responsive Image Loading
The fast loading of illustrated store pages is essential for a positive shopping experience. For this reason, we have implemented “Lazy Loading” in JTL-Shop 5: Images are only loaded when they appear in the visible area during scrolling. In addition, the image content is automatically displayed in the resolution that is best suited to the device being used.
Revised filter and configurator
In order to offer your customers even more options when shopping, we have further developed the filter functions and the configurator. The configurator is now also mobile-optimized and allows a combined multiple selection as well as the purchase of different quantities within a configuration group. The search for suitable items is now also much more convenient: customers can filter for several features at the same time and narrow down or expand their results by selecting or removing additional features.
Multilingualism
As of version 5, JTL-Shop can cover significantly more characters than before. This is because we have changed the character encoding to the global UTF-8 format and converted the database collation to InnoDB. The OnPage Composer also natively supports the complete UTF-8 character set.
By switching to the Unicode encoding UTF-8, you can now use a mixture of many different languages on your store pages and have all the prerequisites to reach a larger international clientele.

Legal certainty
The law on your (shop) side: With JTL-Shop 5, you are opting for the most secure version of our shop software to date. With our natively implemented Consent Manager, you hardly have to invest any work in the GDPR-compliant operation of your online store: As soon as you install plugins from the JTL Extension Store, the required consent elements are automatically added to your Consent Manager. Your customers can specify whether they want to give their consent for a specific service on the current page permanently or only temporarily.
JTL-Shop 5 native double opt-in features ensure that your email marketing is legally compliant.
Last but not least, another change that will make your life as a merchant easier: We have integrated the “VIES” interface as an EU-wide verification method for VAT IDs in JTL-Shop 5. This means that you can now also check the validity of VAT IDs from other EU countries without any detours.

Direct call-up of sold-out items (SEO)
Do you sell seasonal goods and regularly take part of your range offline? That’s a lot of work. In addition, “unavailable items” deter potential buyers, which in turn has an impact on your Google ranking. With JTL-Shop 5, these problems are a thing of the past.
With the new version of our store software, you can make all unavailable items disappear immediately from the list views. However, they can still be called up via a direct link so that customers can make inquiries about availability. This will please your customers and the search engines!
