New test version

JTL-Shop 5 Tech Preview

First insights into JTL-Shop 5

The highlight of JTL-Shop 5 is the OnPage Composer – an editor with which you can master the editorial work on your shop even without programming knowledge. Also included: a new menu structure in the store back end and the first steps towards internationalization.

What is a Tech Preview?

With our Tech Preview, we offer you the opportunity to test some functions of JTL-Shop 5 at an early stage of development. The Tech Preview is not yet suitable for productive use, but is intended purely for testing purposes.

Your feedback is needed

You can give us feedback on JTL-Shop 5 in the JTL forum. Take an active part in shaping our software and help us to further improve the new online store version.

OnPage Composer

With the new OnPage Composer, you can easily add content to your online store – without any programming knowledge. You select individual content, so-called portlets, from a construction kit and drag and drop them to the right place in your store. Sliders, images, videos and texts can be added quickly.

Features of the OnPage Composer:

  • Insert content (portlets) via drag & drop
  • Add images, videos, sliders and texts
  • Prerequisite: You are using a template based on EVO
  • Can be combined with other systems (e.g. Dropper, easyTempate360)
  • In the future: purchase more portlets in the JTL-Store

New menu structure

In the admin area of JTL-Shop, the top navigation bar has been replaced by a sidebar. Good: a better overview, easier navigation and more intuitive and convenient working with JTL-Shop.

The new menu structure:

  • Attractive sidebar
  • Menu items marked with icons
  • Clearly named menu items
  • Logically sorted subcategories

Steps towards internationalization

From version 5, JTL-Shop can cover significantly more languages than before. This is because we are switching the character encoding to the UTF-8 format and converting the database collation to InnoDB. The OnPage Composer also natively supports the complete UTF-8 character set. For data sent from JTL-Wawi to JTL-Shop or received from JTL-Wawi, only Western European languages can currently be covered (ISO-8859-1 character set).

Advantages of UTF-8:

  • Show many languages in JTL-Shop
  • De facto standard character set on the Internet
  • Larger character set
  • Special characters, Cyrillic, Chinese and many other characters possible

Would you like to test the Tech Preview of JTL-Shop 5?

With the Tech Preview of JTL-Shop 5 you can test the new OnPage Composer for the first time. This is still an early development phase of the new online store version.

  • We strongly advise you not to update a production store to the Tech Preview version. A productive operation of the JTL-Shop 5 Tech Preview is not intended.

Are you already using a test environment for JTL-Shop?

The system requirements change with JTL-Shop 5. It is therefore necessary to update your test environment. You can find out how to do this in the JTL forum.

You don't have a test environment for JTL-Shop yet?

Then there are two ways for you: Either you activate a free CFE license in the JTL-Customer Centre and host the shop on your premises. Or you can request a free test shop from JTL, which we will be happy to update to JTL-Shop 5 on request. You can find out what you need to bear in mind and all other information about the test environment in the JTL forum.
