More space for small shipments: What’s changing with the new DHL small parcel

From 2025, there will be a change in the shipping of small and light goods: National Warenpost will be replaced by the DHL small parcel. With more space and additional services, the new shipping solution offers a practical alternative for retailers who want to send small shipments securely and cost-effectively. One of the most important new features: The maximum shipment height increases from 5 cm to 8 cm, which offers more scope for packaging. In addition, a liability of 20 euros per shipment will be included in future. You can find more details about DHL small parcels in this blog post.

The new DHL small parcel at a glance:

  • More volume: Up to 8 cm high with a weight of up to 1,000 g
  • Liability included: Up to €20 value of goods per shipment
  • Flexible options: GoGreen, GoGreen Plus, branch routing, recipient services and new from March 2025: parcel stop.
  • Services included: Shipment notification, drop-off location and neighbor
  • Transparent delivery: shipment tracking incl. delivery scan
  • Fast delivery: usually to the recipient the day after next
  • Favorable price: still a significant price gap to DHL Paket
  • Shipping hazardous goods: in limited quantities from the first shipment

More sustainable shipping

Smaller shipping packaging, as can be used with the DHL small parcel, offers the opportunity to save packaging material. Smaller boxes or shipping bags can avoid unnecessary fillers. And you can make your shipping more sustainable: The CO2e emissions generated during shipping can be reduced with GoGreen Plus (insetting-based approach) and offset with GoGreen through so-called offsetting.

Even more efficient with JTL Shipping

For smooth shipping processing, the new DHL small parcel can be integrated directly into JTL Shipping. This means that DHL shipments, as well as other shipping methods, can be managed directly from JTL-Wawi. Automatic label creation, optimized shipping processes and central control make everyday work easier.

Important information for JTL customers

With the introduction of the DHL small parcel on January 1, 2025, the shipping process for JTL customers has changed. In the current JTL Wawi versions up to 1.9, the product is still referred to as Warenpost and uses the previous procedure.

That means for you:

Existing Warenpost users have been receiving a correct DHL small parcel label since January 1, 2025, but with a warning that the wrong product is being used. You can ignore this notice.

New users of the DHL small parcel up to JTL-Wawi 1.9 can store the new billing number and also print correct labels, but will also receive a warning. This can also be ignored.

As of JTL-Wawi 1.9.8.0, the DHL small parcel is officially introduced and technically fully supported. The release date of the new version of JTL-Wawi will be announced soon.

Transition period until May 31, 2025:

Until the end of May, it will still be possible to create DHL small parcel labels using the old Warenpost process. From June 1, 2025, shipping with the old procedure will no longer be possible – an update to the latest JTL-Wawi version will then be required.
